Hey!! What's the story?
The lie lay heavy on him. White to start with, it had festered and blackened, poisoning his life. Others laughed at him; just another tall story. But Dermot, in his stubbornness, insisted. He had summoned the devil. Only to the priest did he confess.
‘Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned …’
‘Let truth be your salvation, my son. The devil will have no claim on you.’
The priest’s words comforted Dermot as he finally performed the rites. The lie had become truth. Dermot went to confession free of the sin of deceit – and the devil went with him.
