Hey!! What's the story?
She could not discern his expression. He wore different faces, changing with seasons. Scared her at Halloween.
She mistook his indifference for anger, laughter for nervousness.
She donned his favorite color, ‘cheerful red’ he called it. Blending it with her hair, remembering his gentle stroking.
He admired her stylish demeanor. The way she combined her wardrobe. Didn’t matter whether mother approved or not.
Not today, his funeral. She imagined floating above clouds to meet him, he looking down at her.
She’d tell him how much she was missing him, her dad. That she was no longer afraid of clowns.
Krystyna writes poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. Her recent work has been published at: Nailpolish Stories, 50-Word Stories, 100 word story, From the Depths (Haunted Waters Press), ShortbreadStories, Boston Literary Magazine and espresso stories. In 2014, a 50-Word flash was chosen as one of the ten best stories for a contest and a 100-Word flash was selected as one of three best for another contest. Several poems and 'post cards' have appeared in journals. She won a poetry contest in 2011 (Alberta Wilderness Association) and was one of eight poetry winners in another, 2011. Her nonfiction appeared in flash fiction chronicles and in Wild Lands Advocate. Krystyna resides in Alberta, Canada.
