Hey!! What's the story?

Parts of Blame by C.E.Schwilk

It was the shape of my mouth, you said, that earned me your resentment and loathing. I would try and please you, contort my lips or hide behind my hands when talking; spare us both the pain in your eyes.

As I grew, my hands were now to blame, reminding you again of what was never my fault. I could not hide those and cutting them did not change them enough.

Hate your religion, hate your upbringing, hate the rapist – but I didn’t ask to be born nor kept. That was your decision.

Sheesh, that one really hits. Very emotional. You can feel the narrator's sadness and anger over what they couldn't control. Congratulations on the win!

I can definitely see why this won. Great job! Very moving.

Absolutely arresting... dark and morbid with a sense of detached fire in it..
Congrats for an incredible story..

Though the emotion behind the words hurt for a long time..

Time for healing...everywhere

Thank you SO much, everyone! I almost didn't submit this. LOL This had been a longer piece that I had workshopped a long time ago, but never quite satisfied with the outcome. I didn't know if I'd be able to tighten it up enough for this competition. :)

Thank you, thank you!

This is a masterpiece. The only reason I signed up to this site was so I could tell you, "This is a masterpiece."

I will be participating around the site now that I am signed up, but it was this piece that inspired me.

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Premonition

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde…
