I'm still working at the story-a-week thing, and keeping up with it so far. One thing I'm wondering is who I should show them to to get feedback. Some of these I want to put in the novel/collection…Continue

As Valentine's Day is nearly upon us, I thought this a pertinent question to ask: do you think writers and likeminded artistic types are shy creatures? For myself I do have difficulty meeting people…Continue

Is it just chance that a story becomes popular? Can it be planned? Currently I am going the Ray Bradbury route of writing a story every week, with no real idea of planning. Thoughts? Continue

Lately I've been experimenting with writing my first drafts in longhand in notebooks, before typing them onto the computer. According to Neil Gaiman, this is a good way to make you think more about…Continue

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.
The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

I'm consistently humbled by the creepypasta movement online. Marble Hornets, Dogscape, Candle Cove, Dionaea House...stories I never would have thought of, concepts beyond anything I could dream even after an entire of binge drinking coffee and trawling the darker corners of YouTube.
Is anyone else familiar with these? If so, what do you think it takes to create a truly unique horror concept? Something with the flavors of Lovecraft, yet grounded in a modern human experience? House of…

Recently, I had my second round at the Writer's Arena, and made a greater effort than previously to tell my friends and family about it. More than once, I heard this:
"I'll vote for your story, but I won't read it."
That kinda stung, not gonna lie. The contest doesn't matter to me if I can't even rely on my friends and family to read my stuff and give me their honest opinions. I'd rather they just said they wouldn't vote at all.
What do you think? Do you ever have a…

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Premonition
Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde…
