I'm ashamed to admit that in my haste to add replies to this site whilst on a short work break, my spelling & grammar have gone to the wall - I wrote 'sight' instead of 'site' and spelt…Continue

"Hey Ronnie. Likewise. I have still to comment on your excellent piece. You have spotted the influences from a mile. I'd like to think of it as an homage to the 80s (my obsession with horror started then!) Thanks for the kind words."

Phantoms on the Midnight Highway - Flash500 Horror

Posted on October 19, 2014 at 11:30 6 Comments

A crisp night, moonlit silver. A light breeze shifts restless leaves across the blacktop.

A curve in the road - not the best place to catch a lift but there she stands.

An unlikely time for cars to be passing; an unlikely place for them to stop.…

A Last Hunter's Moon

Posted on March 15, 2014 at 19:20 6 Comments

Shards of moonlight pierce the boarded windows and stab at the corners of the room.

As he tries to control his panting breath there's a sound from outside. Have they found him already?

The rational part of him hopes so. Why go on when his family is dead? Brutally murdered not hours ago?

Thoughts of…

Cloak & Dagger

I've had this cloak of invisibility for a long time now. There's something about the energy field generated that disrupts your memory though – because I can't remember how long or even how I got it.

I can tell you this – it works best in the open. Indoors, under fluorescent lights, people sense your presence. They actively move out of your way.…

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde…
