Melody's Birth

Posted on April 23, 2014 at 1:54 0 Comments

Charles drives his automobile onto the street where his daughter's other grandparents live. He is there because someone told him that his daughter's mother, Britney, is visiting. He drives onto the driveway that is partial blocked with several automobiles.

He goes to the door; before he rings the bell, it opens. Britney's father stares at him. "I told you I never wanted you on my door steps ever again in life."

"I came here to talk to Britney," Charles says.

"What… Continue

John powers the automobile into traffic, happy that he finished dinner with his girl friend's parents because of his disdain for them since he discovered their secret.

"Slow down," Joyce says.

"What was that your father whispered to you while we were leaving the restaurant?" John asks.

"He wanted to remind me about something," she says.

"What?" he asks. He probably wanted to know if he found out about them.

"Something that happened in the past."

"When you were a… Continue

Becoming A Love Freak

Posted on July 4, 2013 at 3:52 2 Comments

He looked for days of paradise with her, but after a few had enough days, it never came. Now, some days, whenever the thought of those days come to him, he becomes paralyzed as if in a stupor for a moment to let the thought hurry and drift away and some say that because of those days with her, the word love, makes him a paranoid freak like person. What Mister Jacks Dislike

Posted on July 3, 2013 at 22:05 0 Comments

It is dusk. John walks to an eatery. He recalls what mister Jacks told him. "There is a boss slot in the crew. I'm looking at a couple of guys for it." His stomach is a knot of worry, wondering whom he has to plot against and backstab to get the job. He finishes his meal and then walks to his apartment. Joyce is there before him. He shrieks but two thirty-eight slugs silence him. Before she leaves, she shoves a wedge of cheese into his mouth and says. "Mister Jacks don’t like rats." END

I'm still working at the story-a-week thing, and keeping up with it so far. One thing I'm wondering is who I should show them to to get feedback. Some of these I want to put in the novel/collection…Continue

A Formatting Question-- How would you...?

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

A Memory Resides In Soho

On the 1st August 2015 a special night had arrived for seventy-five year old Robert Harris and his seventy-two year old wife Barbara.  Robert was nattily dressed in a blue suit and Barbara looked elegant in a long flowing red and black flowery dress. They were in the heart of the…

Final Stretch for my First Project

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde hair fell over her face. Scarlet lips whispered to him,…
