Ramble of Life

Posted on August 18, 2014 at 19:53 0 Comments

This is all I will ever need. A blank page to leave my mark on the world. Yet, to leave not even a mere scratch upon the surface barely dented by all others whom have wished to do the same. Everything on this earth is merely temporary, as am I, as are the trees, the grass, the thickets... The galaxies far beyond our comprehensive bounds. Immortality is simply an idea, perhaps, a wish...? A foolish theory at most. Nothing lives forever. It will die, and if not, there will always be…

Untitled Rant

Posted on January 7, 2014 at 20:25 1 Comment

This is just a random rant, nothing more.

Where is the serenity in which to cast my sorrows, my loose threads so I may cleanse this pain? The undying glimpse of the moon as I face skyward towards my destination, the earth holding me in cold hands as if the warmth from living I once felt has melted away? This happiness eludes me, playing a game in which I cannot win. It laughs at me. I, in my sore thoughts of loss, pity myself. It is not subtle. Nothing in this world is gentle, the…

Swish... Swish...

My fingers part the cool, glistening water, disrupting the purple and golden tones of the sunset to send them into a rippling dance around me. Slowly, the colors ebb away into dark waters as the sun sets on the horizon. It's now eerie. Quiet.

And yet... I am still emersed in a freezing essence they call water. I do not know who I am, nor do I understand the things around me. All I know is the word 'harsh'. This is a word I truly understand; it is as cold and…

"Hush, hush, little one, you’re not alone

I’m here, I’m here, until you stand on your own

Dream on, dream on, little warrior

Sleep, sleep, soundly in the foyer

Don’t ever be afraid

I’ll always be your aid

When your eyes shed tears

I’ll wipe them away, and heal your fears

Hush, hush, my gorgeous love

Who Do You Show Your Stories To?

I'm still working at the story-a-week thing, and keeping up with it so far. One thing I'm wondering is who I should show them to to get feedback. Some of these I want to put in the novel/collection…Continue

A Formatting Question-- How would you...?

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

A Memory Resides In Soho

On the 1st August 2015 a special night had arrived for seventy-five year old Robert Harris and his seventy-two year old wife Barbara.  Robert was nattily dressed in a blue suit and Barbara looked elegant in a long flowing red and black flowery dress. They were in the heart of the…

Final Stretch for my First Project

Posted by Daniel Hale on November 16, 2015 at 2:41 0 Comments

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde hair fell over her face. Scarlet lips whispered to him,…
