An end of Holidays

Posted on November 11, 2013 at 17:34 0 Comments

Ribbons, pretty paper,
Christmas cards decked
On the wall in
Random patterns
But none from she

Turkeys basted
Mashing potatoes
The noise of a raucous
But none from she

Apples bobbing
Popcorn on a string
Ornaments glitter
Gaily wrapped packages
A house full of life
But none for she
Forever none
For she

A Cold Breeze( Halloween submission)

Posted on October 6, 2013 at 16:19 0 Comments

As Debra approached the old Victorian home, she shivered. The Gainsborough house! She had many years of paranormal research and ghost hunting experience, but this one really frightened her! " Come on Debbie girl!", she murmured, " get your ass together! You have seen worse!" With that, she slung her ghost hunting gear behind her back, and began the winding trek to the door of the house.

A cold breeze assaulted her as she placed a shaking hand on the cracked and dusty door. Suddenly, the… Continue

The Poet

Posted on September 22, 2013 at 17:24 2 Comments

Wrapped deep in dreams
And warm delights
The poet thinks
Of stormy nights
To write with pen
And stately prose
The epic only
Dreaming knows

And fraught with anger
Goes to pen
But dreams are gone
What was it then?!
So back to sleep
The poet goes
In hopes of words
That dreaming knows

But daylight dawns
The dreamings gone
Too painful now to dwell upon

Roses War

Posted on August 31, 2013 at 16:40 0 Comments

Tucked deep in Roses frayed pocket, and pressed to her heart, was" the letter". It had lain there since..well since..Rose pulled the blanket tightly around her as she gathered her few, pitiful things, and shuffled out of the cold, icy doorstep. As she slipped into the icy dawn, she took the old letter out of her pocket, and squinting, tried to read it for the 40th time.So cold,so hungry! Where was she? Would this old, fading letter help her? The ink was indiscernible..only one word… Continue

I'm still working at the story-a-week thing, and keeping up with it so far. One thing I'm wondering is who I should show them to to get feedback. Some of these I want to put in the novel/collection…Continue

A Formatting Question-- How would you...?

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

A Memory Resides In Soho

On the 1st August 2015 a special night had arrived for seventy-five year old Robert Harris and his seventy-two year old wife Barbara.  Robert was nattily dressed in a blue suit and Barbara looked elegant in a long flowing red and black flowery dress. They were in the heart of the…

Final Stretch for my First Project

Posted by Daniel Hale on November 16, 2015 at 2:41 0 Comments

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde hair fell over her face. Scarlet lips whispered to him,…
