I have a story I wrote several years back in 2009 it got  some good reviews but others told me to change it...I have made changes but still no takers from publishers...I would like feed back on the opening I will post the original (after some edits) as well as what I am trying now...so tear into it...

and yeah so this is essentially two chapters but some of it is the same you can scan...but help would be much appreciated in pointing out where it gets boring...…

Elliana found a curious antique bottle of amber glass with brass filigrees encasing it. It must have belonged to that hobo who bumped into me, she thought.  It was truly a beautiful bottle.

Upon opening it a misty cloud of purple escaped and coalesced before her eyes.

 “Your wish is my command.”

“You have got to be kidding!”

 “Is that your wish?”

“No, hang on I am still processing this.” Elliana looked at the now solid man standing in her…

The Bitter End

The Bitter End

It’s a curious thing really. To be conscious and unable to move. I’ve no one but myself to speak to, as my mouth cannot even respond. But I have this curious need to narrate my demise. Being a storyteller I would dearly love to explain my situation.

I was on holiday. A small cruise line promised a more tailored and unique experience. I enjoyed visiting one island after the other, noting the similarities and differences were…

Hi - I was forced to choose one author only. I wanted to put Asimov-Clarke-Heinlein-Dick-etc...

Asimov was a great ideas man, driving scifi for decades, but his later writing depended upon his ideas rather than on writing style. Or did I just  become more "sophisticated"?

haha yes it is sad that they limit us to a single writer...being writers we must of necessity be readers and have so many that we love. I started with sci-fi but switched to Fantasy because of Ann McCaffrey and then found many more to love and well fantasy suits girls  better...well girly girls like me anyway

I'm still working at the story-a-week thing, and keeping up with it so far. One thing I'm wondering is who I should show them to to get feedback. Some of these I want to put in the novel/collection…Continue

A Formatting Question-- How would you...?

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

A Memory Resides In Soho

On the 1st August 2015 a special night had arrived for seventy-five year old Robert Harris and his seventy-two year old wife Barbara.  Robert was nattily dressed in a blue suit and Barbara looked elegant in a long flowing red and black flowery dress. They were in the heart of the…

Final Stretch for my First Project

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde hair fell over her face. Scarlet lips whispered to him,…
