Starting a writing prompts group?

Posted on January 26, 2014 at 18:15 5 Comments

For a while I've had the idea starting a writing prompts page/group but I have no idea if anyone is interested in this.

I've done a number of prompts before and in my opinion they are really helpful. Specifically one, which involved a weekly prompt where a author reviewed the works and gave her feedback. (shame it's no longer running) Not only did this improve my writing considerably I also gained numerous story ideas.

I want to do something similar but I need to know if…

Incubus (Halloween competition)

Incubus

My eyes opened but the room was dark and blurry; everything looked a shade of grey. I remember how I’d gone to bed only moments ago, so I tried to roll to the side for a better position.

But I couldn't. My body didn't move, my head didn't turn, even my eyes didn't blink. I was flat on my back and completely paralyzed.

I could see the air darken around me, as if the grey background was sucked away.…

Just throwing stuff out there (not a 99er)

I made this short piece as part of a writing prompt a while ago. I figured to that (just for the heck of it) I'd post it here for you to read. Feel free to give pointers/feedback/criticism, I always appreciate it.

The girl in the mirror.

Zoey stared at herself in the mirror. But she didn’t see the reflection of the young woman she was supposed to be. Instead she saw the little girl with watery eyes. Today was the date,…

Wow, I didn't know and didn't expect this. I honestly couldn't believe it, had to triple check for minutes. I'm so happy that I'm sort of shell shocked. But I'm confused as well. Including mine, I counted 6 stories on Kevin's blog. I thought the rules said 5 stories that would 'win' So I'm not sure what happens now. Can I consider myself 'published' or do I have to wait until after the poll or something? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Same goes for yours, I really like it. I find it's quite amazing that we're both in this together, we're both winners if you ask me.

Hi Pim - don't know if you've figured it out yet, but two of the earlier entries had to be pulled, because they had previous writing credits.

I hope that explains - we're back to 5 entries and, yes...technically you're published.

Excelsior!

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

Premonition

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde…
