"DO IT!" 2

His mouth was dry.

Beads of perspiration gathered on his forehead even though it was a chilly February afternoon.

Roger told him to pick it up but his friend Brian said not to.

They talked in the deserted aisle, but Roger was strong willed and the dominant one and got his way.

David picked up the knife and saw his weathered face reflected in its’ ten inch blade.

“Do it …” said Roger.

David walked to the…

"DO IT!"

“Do it,” said Roger.

“Don’t,” said Brian, “It won’t end good man.”

“For God sake, pick the damned thing up.”

Roger as usual had his way. He was the strong willed, dominant one of them.

David saw his face reflecting off the highly polished blade. He knew what he had to do, Roger had made sure of that.

He strode purposefully towards the counter as the two other men melted back into the depths of his troubled…

 It is dark in here.

 Dark, oppressive and foreboding.

Yesteryear familiarities herd my emotions into a pen of enveloping melancholia.

No honeysuckle memories today, they are buried too deep and my nails are as blunt as my non-wit.

A man holding the shreds of my dreams and ambitions stares blankly as he feeds them into the furnace of regrets.

There is a boy I have seen before pleading to be allowed a second…

I'm still working at the story-a-week thing, and keeping up with it so far. One thing I'm wondering is who I should show them to to get feedback. Some of these I want to put in the novel/collection…Continue

A Formatting Question-- How would you...?

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde…
