Hey!! What's the story?
One day, I know, I shall start work on a proper novel. But I've been doing the short story thing, partly because I enjoy it, and partly because Bradbury recommended it as a the best exercise for finding ideas and keeping a hand in storytelling. And speaking of Bradbury, I have ideas for story collections that I want to put together in a way that works as a narrative, not just a hodgepodge collection.
I know the market has changed immensely with the Internet; there's still places for short stories. But I want to try to do things traditionally as well. I want people to actual read me; the slush pile is bigger than ever. Do you think it's possible to write a short story collection (particularly from a virtual unknown) that does well?
