Hey!! What's the story?

NEW from Pagan Publications Ireland:  Land of Lies by Cal Murphy available on all Amazon Book Stores Today #novel

Writer, Cal Murphy, touches down at LAX. His Marine pal, Johnny Kensow, picks him up and the two drink themselves into the following week. For this week and two more, Cal obsessively documents his day-to-day happenings as well as the criticisms, insights, and hallucinations that come with them.

With an endgame in sight and a meantime for degeneracy and brilliance, Cal is certain the next phase of his life will pan out better than the last. When his sure-thing living situation falls through, and then his job, he begins to second-guess this rationale. His new self quickly devolves into his old: a womanizing, self-loathing drunk.

This old self is explained as journal entries from day's past surface—many of them dealing with his ex, their fallout, as well as the dismantling of American principle at the behest of a tyrannical minority; all of them revolving around one essential theme: egocentric rage hidden behind the tenuous veil of altruism.

When Cal finally does find a place to live it is alongside a Saudi prince and two drug dealers. As amusing as they are dangerous, the trio quickly raises the stakes for Cal in his quest for truth, art, and intoxication. Eventually, however, they too must leave—some voluntarily, others not—and Cal is once again alone.

Bottoming out, with no more than an ember of ambition to fuel the course, Cal’s past pushes back into his present, this time for good reason; he is offered a deal for a show he pitched to a TV executive when blacked-out drunk. Seeking one final fresh start, Cal gathers together what little sanity he has left and waits for the exec to send word that the deal is done, biding his time in the interim courting a new love interest: this time a thirty-seven year old stripper.

Ever the unintentional life of the party, Cal is decidedly indifferent to it all.

Okay, I know that there are about 3 instances where you'd regularly use italics in fiction: showing foreign/made-up goblidigoober words, "indicating mental thoughts" and putting stress on words being…Continue

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

A Memory Resides In Soho

On the 1st August 2015 a special night had arrived for seventy-five year old Robert Harris and his seventy-two year old wife Barbara.  Robert was nattily dressed in a blue suit and Barbara looked elegant in a long flowing red and black flowery dress. They were in the heart of the…

Final Stretch for my First Project

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde hair fell over her face. Scarlet lips whispered to him,…
