Hey!! What's the story?

One Nation

The man moved the thick dense drapes to one side and peered out the rain-covered window. He could hear howling wind as each drop of water hit the glass pane. The view before him caused heartfelt grief. Today he had no answers. His eyes moistened. He stepped back, wiped the wetness from his eyes as bullets littered his chest. The beloved President lay in a pile and gasped his last breath.

Jennifer pulled the blanket tighter around her three-month-old daughter. Steady rounds of gunshot echoed in her ears. Confused, disoriented she ran into the nearest shop only to be faced with greater threat. Shiny, sharp daggers glistened in the stores incandescent light as they thrust into bodies. She felt a sharp pain across the back of her neck, fell to her knees. The blood dripped down her body, soaking the pink, flowered dress, turning it crimson. She knelt to shield her daughter, unaware the child had taken her last breath long ago. Mother and baby fallen victims to the madness that controlled the earth.

Bobby Jones thought back two days prior when life was normal, a time before people became consumed with hate so powerful it took over their minds.  He wondered how it had all begun. There were no hints of the devastation to come. Unless you considered the occasional media story on radical/hate groups. How was anyone to know the danger they presented?  He couldn’t wrap his mind around this new-found existence of surrealism. It amazed him they had grown in such large number. It was unfathomable they would take over the world, yet this is exactly what they were doing.

He didn’t know how much longer he could survive. Just yesterday he’d seen these heathens pull the Walters family out of their underground shelter and riddle them with automatic gunfire. He ran like hell to the shelter he built deep within the woods. Getting down on one knee he placed his hands together and prayed.

Mike and Larry watched and waited, timing must be precise. There was too much bloodshed of innocent people, they didn’t want to add to the casualties. It was ‘us against them’ and nobody was going to change this present threat of danger unless people ceased fear and used intelligence. A huge part of the population was bonded under the name of The New Hope. When the powerful became the enemy, a manta was born. “Humanity Now” took the place of prayer and was used to identify comrades.

As Larry felt the last bit of life ebb from his capture, he realized they would win this battle. He nodded at Mike who held a young rebel female and watched as he pierced her heart. This act once would have brought outrage and shock, now produced an anticipation that they would succeed. He envisioned a better world where greed was intolerable, replaced with love, peace and harmony.  Wiping fresh blood from the knife’s blade against his jeans he headed to overcome the next unsuspecting rebel.

Title Advice?

Posted by Daniel Hale on December 14, 2015 at 18:29 0 Comments

I just completed, as near as I can tell, my first book: a collection stories disguised as a novel. I do currently have a working title that I was initially happy with, BUT it may now be too obscure or inapplicable.

The title as it is now is "The Psalterdemalion." This is a combination of two of my favorite words: Psalter, which is a small book of psalms, and Tatterdemalion, which is a man dressed in multicolored rags and tatters. My thinking was that the man character, a story thief,…

So I've got my stories together for my first collection, and am currently working on the connecting narrative. I haven't even thought yet how I'm gonna get this published. Gotta start thinking what I need to do.

Mark stood on a sea cliff top. A wave below roared in and sprayed out a ferocious impact. Its retreat left a glistening carpet of foamy shale. To his left, a slender figured girl appeared, dressed only in a skimpy black nightie. Her blonde…
